Moving to Monticello

Monticello has several parks and natural areas that the city is proud of and maintains on a regular basis for folks to enjoy. In all, there are 24 parks owned and operated by the Monticello Parks and Recreation Department. Some of the parks located throughout Monticello include River Mill Park, Sunset Ponds Park, Hunters Crossing, Pioneer Park and Hillcrest Park, just to name a few. Each park is unique in what they have to offer for Monticello residents. A new park in development, for instance, is Groveland Park and it will have football fields, play areas, convenient parking and shelters for all to enjoy. The Mississippi Drive Swan Park is a unique place where you can see hundreds of Trumpeter Swans from November to February for a truly unique experience. Law enforcement in Monticello is a serious matter that the town's citizens are involved with. The Wright County Sheriff's Office handles enforcing the law throughout the town, but the community is committed to making the area safe for their children and for each other. Gary L. Miller is the current sheriff of Wright County and he has been in the county's law enforcement units since 1975. After several other promotions, he became sheriff in 2000 and his offices are responsible for law-related issues including crime statistics, permits, victim assistance and more. Monticello encourages its residents to volunteer for various jobs throughout the community to make the city a better place to live. Young people in the community are especially encouraged to serve. The Help Save Our Environment project offers a $500 scholarship to high school students in the area who participate in the Nicodemus Wilderness Project which helps clean up trash in the area.
